If you’re in Copenhagen, the opening for the annual Kunstpublikationer fair at Overgaden is next Friday, May 3, from 5 - 8pm.

2013 will be the tenth anniversary of the art book fair, which will be accompanied by the exhibition Danish Artists’ Books. The exhibition, which is both a tribute to the medium and an expression of the diversity of the artist book, is curated by the book’s editors, Thomas Hvid Kromann, Maria Kjær Themsen and Louise Sidenius.

The following publishers will also take part in this year’s fair, which runs through the weekend: After Hand (DK), Aki Books (NO), AKV Berlin (DE), Broken Dimanche Publications (DE), Diamond Docs Press (DK), Emancipa(t/ss)ionsfrugten (DK), Forlaget/tidsskriftet *[asterisk] (DK), Hurricane Publishing (DK), Internationalistisk Ideale (DK), Kulkælderen (DK), Motto Berlin (DE), N S E W (NO), OEI (SE), Pork Salad Press (DK), Space Poetry (DK), TTC Books (DK) and Yokoland (NO).

Opening: Friday 3 May, 5 - 8pm
Fair : Saturday 4 – Sunday 5 May, 12 - 5pm

If you’re in NYC, head down to Chinatown and check out the brand new Petrella’s Imports. Located at the intersection of Canal and Bowery in one of those ubiquitous silver newsstands, Petrella’s Imports is a collaborative project by artists Anne Libby, Elise McMahon and Sophie Stone.

Together, they have amassed an amazing selection of alternative and art publications and other objects from around the world. In this pic which we stole from their Facebook, you can see some of our postcards in the lower left hand corner. Very cool!

Next Saturday in Oslo: Publishing as (part-time) Practice comes to Grafill R21 taking the form of a mini-exhibition and round table discussion.

On view will be a selection of artist books and other ephemera from small publishers in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Also from 1:30 there will be a discussion on artist publishing that we (Espen and Jessica) will be a part of. Admission to the talk is free and all the books will be on view through April 30, parallel to the Year’s Most Beautiful Books exhibition.

THE GOOD PRESS REMOTE RESIDENCY

A body of work and exhibition opening 8th May, closing 1st June 2013

We are inviting applications for Good Press’s very first Residency. This is open to artists of all disciplines; visual artists, photographers, writers, publishers, people.

As an artist in residence at Good Press, you will develop an artwork or project between 8th May - 1st June 2013. The format is entirely up to the artist, but we envisage that as a rough guide the development period will last from the 8th May until 26th May, and thereafter the space would become an “exhibit”.

The residency will be ran remotely, and so as opposed to being here in Glasgow, we are proposing that you are a resident in your own town and send packages either by mail (in the spirit of mail art) or electronically (in the spirit of futuristic living) throughout the month with clear instructions for it’s installation.

The entirety of Good Press is open to you, we have an exhibition tabletop for displaying artworks, but also the whole bookshop is at your command. We can act as eyes and ears for you and will be close to hand to answer questions and give any necessary feedback.

A small budget will be available to contribute towards materials, posting and the general production of the project, and we will work together on promotional material.

To apply, we’d like to see
- your full name and where you are based.
- a proposal (500 words maximum) outlining what you’d like to do.
- a link to your website OR 4-6 images no larger than 5MB in total.

Good Press is a Bookshop and Gallery based Glasgow, specialising in independantly produced zines, books, pamphlets, posters and other printed matter. Our focus is to promote the DIY activities of artists, writers, comic makers, musicians and other practitioners with a keen sense of community. Our “gallery’ of sorts consists of table top style exhibitions and the showing of project based works from a similar variety of practitioners which rotates on a monthly basis.

On Monday Espen and Jessica held a zine workshop at the Academy of Art and Design in Bergen co-organized by our friends Bergen Zines and Raster. It was long (12-hour marathon style), a little crazy, and a lot of fun. The turnout was overwhelming and we are super thankful to everyone, especially those who stayed with us until 5, 6, and even 7 in the morning. Seriously, thank you so much!

The zine itself (Rnaodm Shuflfe) was actually finished the day after, but it looks great. 48 pages + 2 mix CDs. If you were part of the workshop, you can pick up your copy (free!) tomorrow at the Fanzinekveld at Nobel Bopel. 18:00 - 23:00.
